Obituary for Anna Marie Piluso-Hampton

On Friday, November 8, 2019, Anna Marie Piluso-Hampton, loving mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 82 in her home in Brooklyn, NY.

Anna Marie was born on May 3, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY to Thomas and Genoveva Piluso (née Büttner). She grew up in the Carrol Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn, and attended Catherine McAuley high school, where she was a member of the debate team – a skill set she utilized for the rest of her life, particularly to debate her favorite topic: politics. After graduating high school she attended C.F. Young Business School in Brooklyn and the Pohs Institute in Manhattan. She was a licensed insurance broker for all of her adult life, and took over the family insurance business, Piluso Enterprises, in 1984, which she kept active until just months before her passing.

Anna Marie had a big personality, enjoyed life, and was giving of whatever she had. A lover of culture, you could often find her at the opera in her younger years, always dressed to impress. She was a loving mother and grandmother, always proud of her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments and desiring to keep them near to her. Her Sicilian and German heritage was always a point of pride for her, and she ensured that her family were informed about and proud of their roots. A devout Catholic, she was a woman of great faith, and even in the worst of times, looked to the lord with confidence for guidance and strength.

Throughout her life Anna Marie was an active member of many organizations, boards, and committees, including Italian Historical Society of America, which she was Executive Director of from 1988-1991, as well as the Brooklyn Historical Society, National Association for Female Executives, Mill Basin Civic Association, Brooklyn Board of Realtors, Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade Committee, and Bay Ridge Real Estate Board.

She is survived by her three children, Jeannie, Eva Marie, and Jennie-Ann; two grandchildren, Dylan and Crystal; son-in-law, Donald; and grandson-in-law, Vidyuth.
