Obituary for Thomas F. Donahue

Thomas F. Donahue, 88, passed away at his home on February 1, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 8, 1931 and lived his entire life with his family in Brooklyn, New York.

Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Maureen Donahue (McCarthy); his son, Thomas (Gail) Donahue and
his lovely daughters, Mary Pat (Joseph) Charles, Maureen (William Metz) Onorato, Laura (Patrick) Timoney, Eileen (Gerard) Fitzgerald; 9 grandchildren, Samantha, Julie, Ryan, Casey, Maggie, Katie, Melissa, Patrick and Brooke; as well as his sister, Audrey (Frank) McGrath; sisters-in-law, Trudy McCarthy, Mary Eleanor McCarthy and brother-in-law, Donald McCarthy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Thomas was a wonderful husband, father and grandpa. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family. Tom worked for 45 years as a Personnel Director and Labor Relations Negotiator in the prominent Brewery Industry after graduating from Manhattan College and earning the nickname of “Jasper.” He was also a proud graduate of St. Michael’s (now Xaverian) and was on the Executive Board of the Alumni Association for many years. While he graduated 70 years ago, the Brothers instilled in him a strong faith and service to others which remained a constant in his life.

He was a very active and avid member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish family for more than fifty years volunteering and being of service to the various ministries and youth organizations over those years. He was responsible for many of the programs and associations that still live on today. He was considered a father, mentor, friend and advisor to those who knew him. His smile, laughter and passion were felt by all.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his honor to St. Michael’s Alumni Association, 7100 Shore Road, Brooklyn, NY 11209.

Funeral Mass and Celebration of his Life will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 10:30 am. The church is located at 1550 Hendrickson Street Brooklyn, NY. The interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery located at 3620 Tilden Avenue, Brooklyn, NY.
