Obituary for John Borsare
John Thomas (“Jack”) Borsare, age 74, of Brooklyn, joined God in Heaven on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. John was born on September 8, 1945 to John James and Margaret J. Borsare (nee Twomey). John’s mother taught him about faith and fostered his devotion to Mary. John’s father taught him to be courageous and strong. John was raised in a lively, loving family and will be sorely missed by his sisters and brothers, Margaret (“Peggy”) Rossiello, James, Maureen Viani, Richard and Thomas and the outlaws, Guy, Steve and Marianne. They laughed during the good times and supported each other through the worst of times.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, John served his country honorably during the Vietnam War and upon his return, was showered with pretzels and ice cold Coca-Cola.
John was a dedicated caregiver and civil servant. After his discharge from the Army, he joined the New York City Police Department and faithfully protected and served the City for 32 years. Many of his closest friends worked alongside him and remained his buddies for life.
John married his sweetheart and best friend, Barbara Jean (nee Kushner), on August 28, 1971. He was grateful for every day that they spent together, especially enjoying walking to Sheepshead Bay and Manhattan Beach, cruising, trips to Atlantic City and Black Friday shopping trips.
John was like a superhero to his daughters, Eileen Patricia and Robin Ann. He always made sure they had what they needed and encouraged them to do their best. He would wrangle down the apple at the top of the tree because it was the shiniest for them. He lovingly walked each of them down the aisle at their marriages to George and James.
John is survived by many loving nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. He knew the latest news about each and every one of them and cherished sharing their stories. Family celebrations, especially Christmas, will never be the same.
John had the gift of gab and had a story for everyone. He enjoyed the Saint Patrick’s Day parade and sharing special times with his friends in the Emerald Society. John also looked forward to spending his summers with his “extended family” at Breezy Point, where he loved to go fishing on the bay side.
John was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with the “breakfast club”. John became fast friends with virtually everyone he met. John was lucky to have supportive and caring neighbors who assisted him without hesitation, even with the most difficult of tasks.
John loved to read and work on crossword puzzles. Most of all, he loved to spend time with and spoil his beloved grandchildren, Sophia Grace, James, Kayleen Ann and Thomas John. Every day was an adventure when they were together. He took pleasure in teaching them many important things, like how to fix a towel rack, how to sew, how to ride a bike and how to pull out their own teeth. He loved to watch them play sports and treated them to buffalo wings, ice cream, pony rides and ice pops. They will miss him terribly.
